Human Figure

Objective:

The student will draw from a live model to understand simplification of shapes, proportions, anatomy, gesture and structure.

They will work with models in short poses from 2 hours to gradually moving into long poses of up to 48 hours, so that they can deepen their research on anatomy, proportions, structure, portraiture and gesture, and thus take it to a higher level.

They will initially work with graphite and then introduce themselves to soft materials such as charcoal, sanguine and other soft materials, so that they broaden their knowledge towards other means of work and the possibilities they offer. Finally, the student will face the figure in painting, starting with grisaille, and will continue with oil in color.

The student must demonstrate their understanding of all the principles taught and will carry out a final project working on a specific work, a project that will be reached through prior studies and advice so that in this way all the tools acquired throughout the program are applied, showing own style.

Methodology:

-Comparative measurement:

Measurement method where the student looks for relationships between proportions, angles and sizes to achieve an accurate replica of the work being reproduced.

-Block-in:

Drawing technique that uses only straight lines to first capture the outline of the object to be drawn and later the silhouette of the shadows inside and outside the object. This technique is used only at the beginning of the drawing process to help the student simplify what he must portray.
